Redfish Restaurant

5th Avenue, San Diego, CA

The project in San Diego's Gaslamp District was a tear-down replacement of an existing 1950's, one story commercial building. The Gaslamp Quarter Association and the Center City Development Corporation required any new construction to conform to the design parameters of the original gaslamp. Most buildings in this historic district were constructed between 1890 and 1920.

An additional design challenge for this project was to accomodate two restaurant users: T.G.I. Friday's on the lower level and Redfish Cajun Restaurant on the second floor.

The single building was designed to appear as two distinctive structures, each with it's unique entry. The Redfish entry is a two-story atrium with stairs and elevator, leading to the second floor above the T.G.I. Friday's.

The San Diego Gaslamp Association presented the building with it's annual "Heart of the Gaslamp" Award.
